I think this is my favorite episode yet as these are three design things I think about all the time!! I once had an uber - Ford Mustang Mach E with a weird tiny circular button to open the door. I couldn’t figure it out and the driver acted like that was strange.

Also I’d love a subscription to that furniture design newsletter!

It drives me crazy when the drivers treat us like idiots for not being able to open their annoyingly complicated doors. Send us an email at mannynoahdevan(@)gmail and we'll send over that subscription!!

Listening to this episode, I realized I have anxiety about opening a Tesla door handle -- and that is insane! "Am I going to push the wrong side of the handle? Am I going to look like an idiot?" Of course this is completely setting aside the anxiety about dying in a car fire because I'm trapped inside. But honestly I think less about that, and more about looking stupid to my Uber driver.

I will say I got a Tesla Uber right after I finished editing this episode and I went 25% more confident in opening the door lol.

The thing that drives me (sorry) the most nuts about newer cars is the touch screen replacing everything…it just seems so much less safe to have to take your eyes off the road to look for an icon. With buttons, dials, and switches, I could fumble around the console until I feel the thing I need to turn up the volume, change temperature settings, etc.

I don’t remember where I was told this, but I heard it’s due to cost. What’s even more nuts is that this is happening to anesthesia machines (my line of work) and a pilot friend of mine said similar changes are occurring inside planes as well. The lack of safety in touch screens is something I could go on about for a long time but I’ll save you the rant.

On a more pleasant note, let me introduce you to this microwave: https://shop.sharpusa.com/medium-duty-commercial-microwave-oven-with-1000-watts-r21lcfs/?srsltid=AfmBOoonq2LWVIyZ8wuz04hn2FGKbko3pUv3iOnkOwJAHfQSS3Z37weA

No buttons, not even a start button! Just a dial that you turn to whatever amount of time you want and it automatically starts.
