We talk to food safety experts to find out what food poisoning actually is, where it comes from, and what you can do to avoid it. Also: Did your family have a dedicated bowl to vomit in? Will leftover rice kill you? And do you have to wash your chicken?
My (white) family had a throw up bowl that was also our usual popcorn bowl, after listening still on team bowl vs ground/bed/etc - my house had four to six (depending on the season) people sharing one bathroom which I feel like adds to the need for the bowl!
My (white) family also had a throw up bowl ... that we referred to as "the throw up bowl." It was our largest mixing bowl, so we'd also use it for other kitchen tasks. My dad would always clean it with bleach after someone barfed in it. The bowl was stainless steel and had a distinctive ring to it, so sometimes when using it in the kitchen I'd get a pavlovian upset-stomach feeling.
